I would like to know the opinions of the players on this site of the Kings Gambit (which is by far my favourite opening).

Stuart.

That's one of the oldest openings. I like the opening but find players don't always take the gambit.

I also found that a good opponent on the black side, after accepting the gambit, can cause you problems if they play the the proper defense and play it effectively.

I like playing it as black 'accepting', but found to date playing against a stronger playing I can come 'unstuck'

The Kings Gambit Accepted is very formulaic. If Black holds on to the pawn Black may win, and if White wins back the pawn, White will win, with accurate play. Clearly a wild opening!

If memory serves, I have held onto the pawn more often recently but tended to draw more than win possibly missing some winning opportunities.

I have had some good results accepting the pawn and where suitable playing 3..... Be7. The opening often leads to a quick win for the stronger player although it often depends on how adventurous the 2 players are.

Have a good game going currently where Ketchuplover played the kings gambit - not sure who is winning but is very interesting game.

It's a very aggressive opening for white if he can play properly. But I think black has some counter play like 2......d5. It's called falkbear gambit. And from the begining to end, white has some tension whatever he could hold up his defense or not it's a question. Cause at the starting of the play white opens his king side. And black has some check to give the white.

This is why, now a days a very few player plays this opening. If black plays correctly then I think black will not feel any problem to get draw with white.

I really love this opening too. You may know, but I should to mention the Thomas Johansson's book about it. I have this book at my bed.

I'm not so sure about that, I think that it has litle more disadvantages than ex. queens gambit. I don't use it often, but that is my opinion, it doesn't mean I'm right.....

If black gives back the pawn at the right time, white often has problems.
