The King's Gambit, in my opinion, is a for-fun kind of opening. It's fun to play once in a while, but it isn't really a serious opening.

I like very much this opening,as a matter of pact most of my games with white pieces on this site were king's gambit trying to explore and learn its intricacies regardless of the outcome .What matters most is the thrill and excitement you felt while playing the game.

I agree with Bagz it is a very exciting opening and you are guaranteed to never have a dull game. However best play by strong players playing black most often results in black ending up with an advantage. It is a fun opening for forums like this, but for big tournaments a person is probably best off with the Sicilian, French, Grunfeld or Kings Indian. I enjoy playing gambits like the Evans, also leads to exciting games, but one sticks one's neck out a bit. Best Regards
