GUI Suggestions

1. The board colors/pieces are horrible. Give us the option to change or change to a wood look like Chessbase's board/pieces.

2. Stop using dark blue highlight over black text on the site....the text cannot be read.

And compliments on an overall good site. I like playing and visiting here.

I wouldn't say horrible exactly. Good contrast and practical, but boring. A colour changing feature would be a good idea. Each player can then choose their own preference.


I can't say I've noticed that on here.

Just look at the reply and quote buttons in each post.

They seems fine to me. Blue background with white text. Changes to yellow when I put my mouse pointer over it.

Maybe it's been fixed now or more likely a cross-browser compatibility problem. I use Firefox now, dumped Internet Explorer years ago, never looked back, full of bugs.

Yes it looks like Internet Explorer is being a pain again. It's obviously not suppose to be these colours and no-one would be able to read it, including myself.

I believe that Internet Explorer 8 is out later this year, hopefully the Microsoft team will of sorted out these annoying bugs.

use Firefox it's a free download just search Firefox and follow on screen instructions - they have just released their new updated version - i don't use anything else

What does everyone think of the new forum layout?

Is it too squashed for smaller monitor sizes or okay?

I could maybe put an option in so players can choose between this layout or the older one.

The new layout makes sense; visitors and players can immediately sense what is being discussed rather than having to run thru each of the forums to see what has been posted.

Now if you can only change the board and pieces I'll be a very happy camper

Yes I like the new layout. Saves having to scroll down to the last discussions each time to see whats going on.

The more I look at the chess board now, the more I dislike it. Yes, changing the pieces is a good idea. Unfortunately that's not a quick 5 minute job.

I like the idea of our players choosing there own colours and pieces. I could even perhaps have an option for users to upload a background design for the squares themselves.

Problem with this is I need to use play pieces with transparent backgrounds. This is easy to do, but, annoying Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 doesn't support transparency, which 33% of our players are currently using.

I'll work on the problem, but might be a while yet.

I like the board as it is. I like to play grey/white squares CC and more conventional brown/cream squares for blitz. Just my preference.

Board looks fine to me too. I noticed the game playing screen shifts to the left of my screen though. All the other screens are in the middle. But it doesn't really matter.
