Our website allows chess players from around the world to play chess games with each other, anytime 24 hours a day.
We have many benefits for chess players that have an active and busy lifestyle. For example, if you have children, it's sometimes difficult to play a full game without being interrupted. If you was playing a live chess game and got called away, you would have to resign the game or lose by timing out. Being called away in the middle of a game is no problem here at che55.com.
There are really two ways to play online chess. One way is to play live with another opponent who is online at the same time. The other is to play an opponent who is not online at the same time. There are many sites on the internet where you can play either, but here we are a hybrid of both types. Our chess is played on what is called a "Correspondence Chess Server".
Using our chess server you can play against opponents, even if they are offline at the time. You simply make your move, then if you choose, logout and return later. A time limit per move is set at the beginning of every game. This is typically between 3 and 15 days. Most common is 3 days per move.
The player who's turn it is to play then has this time limit to make their move, else they forfeit the game. The timer is reset when a move is played.
Chess usernames
Each chess player playing here has an unique username that identifies them. If the player chooses, the username is displayed in green when they are online or red if not.
An avatar, photo and other personal profile information can optional be added to the username. This allows other players to view an opponent details about that person and also all historic chess game data, for example opponents played in the past.
Chess ELO rating
Every player has a chess score rating called their 'ELO rating'. All players start with a rating of 1200, higher the number the better. Rating increases and decreases with varying amounts when games are won, lost or drawn. Generally winning against an opponent with a higher rating than yourself will give you more points than an opponent with a lower rating.
The average ELO rating of players varies roughly between 900 - 1600.
Moving chess pieces
Moving chess pieces during a game couldn't be simpler. On your turn, just click on the piece to be moved, then choose the square to move to. Both these squares will change colour to green. Alternatively, for web browsers without javascript enabled, the coordinates can be typed in, for example "d1" to "e2".
Once your happy with your intended move, clicking the submit button will execute the move. A move cannot be undone, once submitted.
Chess league
All of our players that have completed at least 3 games are automatically entered into the chess league points system. This league is worked out on a formula using the games won, lost and drawn for each player. The ELO rating and average opponents ELO rating are also calculated into the final score points.
The top ten highest league points players are displayed on our homepage for all to see. The full league table can be seen here.
Many more features
This is only brief glimpse of the features we have here on our correspondence chess server. Registration is free for all players that wish to play. It only takes a few minutes and your username will be yours to keep here permanently.
To all our existing members and all visitors, Happy chess playing. Keep your king safe!!
